About the event
This session focuses on helping secondary educators use writing as a powerful tool for learning in every subject area. Participants will explore
practical strategies for embedding meaningful writing tasks in science, social studies, math, and elective courses to deepen understanding, strengthen
vocabulary, and support critical thinking. Grounded in research on disciplinary literacy and explicit instruction, this session demonstrates how short, purposeful writing activities—such as quick writes, structured responses, and evidence-based explanations—can reinforce content knowledge while building students’ writing skills. Teachers will learn how to model thinking, provide clear expectations, and use scaffolds that help all students successfully communicate their ideas in writing.
