SIEC Mentor Teacher Training (MTT)
The Southern Indiana Education Center is prepared to support teacher leaders who are guiding current and future educators. We offer two robust programs to train mentor teachers: MTT: Via Educere and MTT: Legacy Builders. Each provides extensive and practical guidance for teacher leaders who are currently working as or intend to serve as mentors in the near future.

The Mentor Teacher Training (MTT) program aims to guide and support experienced teachers in learning effective mentoring strategies through evidence-based and connected experiences. This is done to build an effective, supportive environment for high school students striving to develop artful teaching skills through a Youth Apprenticeship experience.
Goals of the program include:
-
Using cycles of inquiry and the dialogic process to share and shape learning.
-
Identifying roles and relationships that support the development of apprentice teachers.
-
Developing and consistently using co-teaching strategies.
-
Developing future teachers who are reflective practitioners, able to critically assess their practice, and are committed to continuous professional learning.
-
Cultivating an understanding of the creative possibilities and professional responsibilities of an educator.
-
Fostering collaboration and effective communication for all student apprentices.
-
Learning and utilizing the practical logistics of serving as a mentor to an apprentice future educator.
