UDL tools within every student device
If your district has student chromebooks, you're in luck with built in student accessibility tools. Setup is easy! Simply find accessibility features in Settings (bottom right corner select time, choose Settings, go to Accessibility. Don't worry, if your district has other devices we have you covered with options below!
Enable Universal Design for Learning (UDL) for all student groups with an easy setup.
#1 - Select to Speak
Users can select specific portions of text to be read aloud. BONUS: This works in Locked Mode in Google Forms (students must click icon before opening form)!
Tip: When you want to highlight a word, double tap. Triple tap will highlight all of the text.
#2 - Magnification Options
Students can easily make the screen larger on a chromebook.
Option 1: ctrl+(zoomIN) OR ctrl+(zoomOUT)
Option 2: Make your whole screen larger in Chrome settings. Activate whole screen magnifier with ctrl+search+m
#3 - Dictation
Students can enable voice to text within their Chromebooks. Activate in settings by using the SEARCH+D to activate, or tap the microphone at the bottom of Chromebook screen.
Tip: Multilingual students can set language as native language, then translate easily in Google Docs, Slides, or Forms.
#4 - Live Captions
Users can have media with audio auto generate live captions in real time! In Settings, select Advanced Accessibility, the Manage Accessibility Features. Under "Audio and captions," select Captions. Turn on live Caption.
