About the event
Indiana’s K–6 math standards emphasize “real-world problem solving” repeatedly, yet many students still struggle to make sense of problems, select efficient strategies, and persist through them. So what does effective problem-solving instruction actually look like?
In this workshop, participants will build a clear understanding of how students develop as problem solvers and how to support that growth at every stage. You’ll explore the 14 problem types across whole numbers, fractions, and decimals, examine how student strategies progress from modeling to derived facts, and learn how to use models and representations to strengthen comprehension and reasoning. Through analysis of student work and connections to standards, you’ll leave with practical tools to improve instruction, deepen engagement, and support all learners in becoming confident problem solvers.
