Leading Math Interventions

There is a need to ensure school leadership (Administrators, Coaches, Lead Teachers) understand the challenges of creating an effective math intervention approach. Math leadership and collaborative efforts look different in every school/district. Actions such as reviewing mathematics data, interpreting data to inform instructional moves, and collaborating with colleagues are vital to the intervention development process. This session, led by Jamie Faulk and Ben Lawalin, provides guidance based on their immersive experiences. Additionally, the half-day experience will include a list of "look-fors" to guide leaders and technology implementation to make the job easier.

Please join us at the SIEC office on October 9 for this one-of-a-kind session designed for school leaders leading math intervention planning.

Presenters: Ben Lawalin (North Spencer) and Jamie Faulk (Southwest Sullivan)

Ben Lawalin is the current principal at Lincoln Trail Elementary in the North Spencer County School Corporation.  He has served in that capacity for 16 years.  Before that, he taught almost every grade at the elementary level at both Chrisney Elementary and Lincoln Trail.  He loves elementary school because of the excitement the students have to learn and the fact that teachers get to teach all subjects and not just one content area.  When not working, he enjoys reading books about History, playing cards/board games, hunting, and fishing. 

Hello!  I am Jamie Faulk. I have had the privilege of teaching 3rd grade at Sullivan Elementary for the past 22 years. As a lifelong math enthusiast, I enjoy helping students build confidence and develop a love for problem-solving. I am passionate about education and am always striving to stay current on the latest instructional strategies and best practices to provide the best learning experience for all students.

I am a proud native of Jasonville, Indiana, and have been part of the Sullivan Elementary family since the beginning of my teaching career. My husband and I have been married for 20 years, and we have two wonderful daughters, Brylee and Brystol. Outside of the classroom, I enjoy reading, shopping, and cheering on my daughters as they compete in volleyball and basketball. I feel incredibly grateful to be part of the SIEC math professional development and look forward to seeing you all soon!
