How will today’s students be expected to ethically and effectively interact with AI in college and the workplace? How can we teach students to use AI as a thinking partner—not a thinking substitute?
In this highly interactive, full-day session, we’ll explore what AI literacy means for middle and high school students. Using the acclaimed book Teaching with AI: A Practical Guide to a New Era of Human Learning by José Antonio Bowen & C. Edward Watson (2024), participants will:
Explore how colleges and industries are responding to AI and what that means for K–12 instruction.
Learn practical, classroom-ready strategies for helping students use AI to enhance creativity and avoid plagiarism.
Build a working knowledge of key AI terms and concepts.
Discuss how to integrate ethical and effective AI use into your curriculum.
Apply strategies from the text to your own subject and grade level.

Tammy Gerber brings 30 years of experience teaching students from kindergarten to
college—and training professionals across sectors. Known for bridging K–12 and postsecondary
expectations, Tammy has been evaluated as highly effective from public school and university
administrators, university students, and professional development attendees for her engaging,
practical approach.
Currently a doctoral student researching curiosity in international school systems, Tammy
recently presented at the John Dewey Society & Philosophy in Education Society Conference
at Johns Hopkins University. As a university administrator, she has led initiatives in
curriculum development, faculty mentoring, and DEI, with a broad understanding of disciplines
from business to the humanities.
