About the event
This workshop is a collaborative coaching and behavioral support program led by Dr. Lora Wilson, whose doctoral work focused on educational neuroscience in the classroom. Dr. Wilson serves as a thought partner for schools and districts to review discipline data and existing behavior plans. Together, participants utilize research and best practice strategies to create learning environments that are welcoming to all students.
This workshop structured around a neurodevelopmental, trauma-informed framework broken into four main areas of learning:
Neuroanatomy & Student Behavior: Participants explore how childhood and generational trauma impact a student's body, brain, and need for attachment, using these insights to identify neurodevelopmental instructional strategies.
Stress Responses and Neuroplasticity: This focus area covers recognizing the types and signs of stress affecting classroom learning, planning around the brain's capacity for neuroplasticity, and implementing personal strategies to foster safety and security.
Behavior & Discipline: Educators reflect on traditional discipline practices, collaborate on resilience-building alternatives, identify effective responses to misbehavior, and learn to cultivate trust by becoming "warm demanders".
Getting to Resilience: The final component focuses on establishing broad school-wide supports to create an environment of "felt safety," developing trauma-informed accommodations, and understanding restorative practices.

Lora Wilson, Ed.D., is an accomplished educator and instructional leader with over 25 years of experience in early childhood and K–12 education. She currently serves as an Instructional Specialist and Program Coordinator at East Central Education Service Center, where she supports literacy, leadership, and school improvement initiatives. With expertise in educational neuroscience, literacy, and school leadership, she is dedicated to empowering educators and helping students thrive.
