Legacy Builders (SIEC MTT)

Legacy Builders, SIEC Mentor Teacher Training program, aims to guide and support experienced teachers in learning effective mentoring strategies through evidence-based and connected experiences. This is done to build an effective, supportive environment for high school students striving to develop artful teaching skills through a Youth Apprenticeship experience. Legacy Builders is divided into eight topics designed to help participants grow as mentor teachers. Each topic consists of one required synchronous, virtual meeting, approximately four hours of online work, and one practice challenge, during which participants apply their learning in the classroom and showcase evidence of learning in an online portfolio (Google Site template). Mentor Teacher assignments and research will be organized and communicated through the SIEC WIX platform, where each participant will have access. Program Learning Goals: Use cycles of inquiry and the dialogic process to share and shape learning. ● Identify roles and relationships that support the development of apprentice teachers. ● Develop and consistently use strategies for co-teaching. ● Develop teachers who are reflective practitioners, able to critically assess their practice, and are committed to continuous professional learning. ● Cultivate an understanding of the creative possibilities and professional responsibilities of an educator. ● Foster collaboration and effective communication for all student apprentices.
