About the event

As Indiana educators prepare for the upcoming ILEARN Checkpoint assessments, this workshop is designed to provide ELA teachers with the tools and strategies needed to guide effective instruction and intervention. Join us for a focused, one-day session that will help you break down key content and skills, align instruction with the assessment’s demands, and develop targeted interventions to address student learning gaps. Leave with a deeper understanding of the standards, practical teaching strategies, and a clear plan for maximizing student success.

Participants will:

  • Gain insights into the structure and design of the ILEARN ELA checkpoints, including item types, performance level descriptors, and scoring criteria.

  • Break down each standard by performance level to effectively teach reading comprehension, vocabulary, and writing skills aligned to grade-level expectations.

  • Learn how to leverage IDOE resources and instructional supports to create targeted, data-driven lessons.

  • Collaborate with peers to share best practices for addressing diverse student needs and planning for Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions.

  • Develop a toolkit of formative assessments and instructional strategies to prepare students for checkpoint assessments and beyond.

By the end of the workshop, attendees will be prepared to:

  • Use checkpoint data to guide instruction, close learning gaps, and enhance student outcomes.

  • Confidently plan for targeted intervention and differentiated instruction.

  • Foster a growth mindset in students as they prepare for high-stakes testing.
