FAQs
What is Project Protégé?
Project Protégé is a work-based learning youth apprenticeship for high school students that combines on-the job experience with classroom based instruction and industry recognized training.
How is this different from an internship?
Project Protégé involves increased skill
achievement resulting in youth apprentices
performing work tasks during the
apprenticeship. The apprentice is ready to
fill an entry level position upon graduation.
Skill development and advancement after
graduation is also part of the program.
Who is coordinating this and what will they provide?
The Southern Indiana Education Center
will support recruitment and interviews, aligning coursework & job skills, onboarding & training plan development,
and measuring outcomes. The SIEC will also provide a youth apprenticeship
manager to support the systems, students,
mentors, and supervisors.
What is the employer's commitment?
Employers are responsible to provide a paid apprenticeship of at least 650 hours
with incremental wage increases. The
employer is to commit to developing a job
description & training plan, interviewing
of candidates, an assigned supervisor &
mentor, and to co-develop and sign an
MOU.
