Chile is located on the western side of South America. It borders the South Pacific Ocean. It is a little smaller than twice the size of Montana. The capital city is Santiago. The land on the coast has low mountains with fertile valleys leading up to the high Andes Mountains to the east.

| Chile has some of the dries deserts in the world. These are in the north with cool and damp weather to the south. About 1/2 of the total land is pastures and woodlands, with the other half being rugged land. Chile has a wide variety of landscapes from the high mountains of the Andes to the coastal lands of the ocean. The penguins live on the coastal land on the ocean. |
Chile has severe earthquakes and active volcanoes in the south. All of Chile to the west is coastline that is on the South Pacific. Sometimes the coast gets hit with tidal waves called tsunamis. The economy relies heavily on sea fishing, copper mining, and forestry. |
