Introduction to "Months of the Year"

Welcome to Mrs. Payton's first grader's class book on the Months of the Year! This class book was developed in conjunction with Houghton Mifflin's Invitations to Literacy. Visit their website for additional activities and books to read that correspond with that theme.

We read the book When This Box Is Full by Patricia Lillie and illustrated by Donald Crews. This is a story about a little boy that places items in the box for each month of the year. This is a fun way for the children to work on learning seasons and the months of the year.

After reading the story, the children worked in small groups of 5-6 children, brainstorming what they do for each month of the year. The children dictated what they did, then illustrated what was written. We hope you enjoy our little showcase...you can have your students submit their own activities to our showcase, too!
