These are Internet projects and activities
developed by our staff and students at Loogootee Elementary West. Visit our pages and see

100th Day
Activities
- At this site, you'll find sites that have something to
do with 100, you can search for your own sites choosing from two search
engines developed just for kids, and you can look at suggested activities
for 100th Day Celebration!
Abraham
Lincoln
- Mrs. Payton's first grade class wrote a quiz about Abraham Lincoln.
From this webpage, you can find the quiz, go on a treasure hunt, view pictures about
pioneer life, and do other activities. This lesson won the grand prize on Microsoft's
Encarta website.
Butterflies and Moths
- This is a short hot list of sites to visit
to learn more about moths and butterflies.
China
- Our third grade computer club has been studying about China and they
have created some interactive information about this ancient nation. Learn how to write to
12 in Chinese, visit the China slide show to learn information about this country, or take
quizzes written by our club about China.
Hatching Emus
- Mrs. Strange's second grade class hatched emus in their classroom!
You can take a quiz that their class wrote or view their picture gallery of their emus.
Hedgehog
- Have you ever thought about having a hedgehog as a classroom pet? Take an interactive
quiz, read stories about this classroom pet, and find out other interesting facts about
hedgehogs on this activity.!
Monster Project
- Our first grade class joined this collaborative project where we exchanged descriptions
of monsters by e-mail. See our finished project!
Months of the Year
- This is a first grader's class book on the Months of the Year! This class book
was developed in conjunction with Houghton Mifflin's
Invitations to Literacy. Visit their website for additional activities and books to read
that correspond with the theme "Growing and Changing."
Oink, Oink, Oink
- Visit these web activity pages to find lots of activities for our Houghton Mifflin's
Invitations to Literacy "Three Little Pigs" third grade theme:
Penguins Around
the World
- Find out about the different kinds of penguins that live around the world. This site has
slide shows, clickable maps to find where penguins live, quizzes, treasure hunts for
information, and colorful photos of penguins. Lesson plans and science related activties
are also included.
Rock Hounds
- Developed by students and staff at Loogootee, this web based activity teaches students
the difference between sedimentary, metamorphic, and igneous rocks and how they were
formed.
Something Fishy
- This book review was developed with Houghton-Mifflin which offers suggestions on ocean
activities for a "fishy theme!"
Solar System
- Our second grade class created informational articles about
our solar system. You can read their riddles, play word games, go on a treasure hunt, or
take the solor system quiz that was written by this creative class!
Surfing for ABC's
- This was a summer school project for Kindergarten-First Grade children (ages 5-7 years
old). The kids were familiarized with a browser and learned simple searching techniques
using Yahooligan's search engine. A lesson plan
is included.
