Teaching American History Grant Resources Page
The SIEC facilitated a four year Teaching American History (TAH) Grant, "Living History Liberty Fellowship," funded by the US Department of Education, from August 2007 through June 2011.
The TAH resources provided below continue to be available. However, the Cicero and Virtual Tutor links are accessable only to former TAH participants and other educators in their school district.
This is a link to the Living History Liberty Fellowship grant website.
It includes grant information as well as the lesson template, structure,
and requirements for TAH fellows as they work on lesson plans for the grant.
Cicero is an online educational and professional development tool available to social studies teachers.
With practically every type of historical or educational material you can think of using in your classroom,
this web site delivers a complete digital toolbox for teaching history well beyond the textbook.
Cicero is divided into 15 historical units with over 325 history lessons at the high school, middle school,
and elementary school levels with topics starting from the Greek and Roman philosophies
and ending with the present times and the War on Terror.
This resource is available to TAH fellows and also to other teachers at their schools.
These Lesson Plans were submitted by TAH Fellows during the 4 years of the grant.
This link offers educators a portal into the secret White House tapes made by Presidents Roosevelt through Nixon. Tailored specifically to the needs of classroom teachers, the resource includes course syllabi and classroom activities.
Virtual Tutor is an online classroom that incorporates the newest technology into traditional,
standards-based education. It takes place inside of a "Virtual World" which is a 3D classroom that gets loaded inside this web page.
Virtual Tutor has 25 distinct classrooms, called "Museums", each one corresponding to roughly a month's worth of education.
This resource is available to TAH fellows and also to other teachers at their schools.
Check with a TAH fellow at your school for login information.
A variety of American History video clips are available to all teachers on this
