Miscellaneous Resources
Here are known open source projects, commercial resources and other links that are not only being used in some Indiana 1:1 classrooms, but in other Indiana schools as well. If you are aware of other programs/resources being used, please be sure to let us know so we can include them here.
Run popular office productivity software, such as Microsoft Office, Photoshop, and Lotus Notes, in Linux, without any Microsoft OS license costs. This is a commercial product and being used for Shockwave Player in Indiana schools. Macromedia currently does not offer a Shockwave Player for linux.
An Internet content filter.
g4l (Known to image NTFS, FAT, Reiser3, EXT2 and EXT3 file systems)
g4l is a hard disk and partition imaging and cloning tool. The created images are optionally compressed, and they can be stored on a local hard drive or transferred to an anonymous FTP server. A drive can be cloned using the "Click'n'Clone" function. g4l supports file splitting if the local filesystem does not support writing files >2GB. The included kernel supports ATA, serial-ATA, and SCSI drives. Common network cards are supported. It is packaged as a bootable CD image with an ncurses GUI for easy use.
moodle (Linux/Mac OS X/Netware 6/Windows)
Moodle is a course management system (CMS) - a free, Open Source software package designed using sound pedagogical principles, to help educators create effective online learning communities. You can download and use it on any computer you have handy (including webhosts), yet it can scale from a single-teacher site to a 40,000-student University.
Administer and create web based surveys. Results are graphed and can be exported to a CVS file.
Administer a linux server through your web browser.
This is an email server, web email client and group calendaring system. Zimbra uses postfix.
