I have always wanted to be a
Catholic School educator. I attended Catholic school for my
first twelve years of school growing up in New York. As I
reflect on these years I feel so fortunate to have attended such
fine schools that were based on our Catholic Faith.
I received my license to teach in 1977 and my Masters degree in
education at Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia in 1982. My
first job was to teach kindergarten at St Francis School in
Gettysburg, Pennsylvania in 1978.
Due to my husband's career, we found ourselves moving every few
years but I was always fortunate enough to obtain a position in
a Catholic school where we were living. I taught at St. Isadore's School in Quakertown, Pennsylvania, St. Lawrence in
Rochester, New York and then at St. Rose in York, Pennsylvania
until finally moving to Jasper, Indiana. I spent several years
in the classroom before taking on the challenge of returning to
school to pursue an administrators license. I became the
principal of Holy Family School in 2000.
Tradition is what comes to mind when I think of Catholic
education. It is a rich tradition based on our faith in Jesus
Christ as our Lord and Savior. Caring and morals taught hand in
hand with math and reading and using Jesus Christ as our role
model are the realities of Catholic school.
Each week as I celebrate Mass with our students, I am reminded
of how lucky I am to be the principal of Holy Family School. I
am blessed to work with caring educators and supportive parents,
as well as young Christian students - who will be tomorrow's
leaders. |
