SonShine Holy Family
Preschool
SonShine Holy Family Preschool is a developmental program which
encourages the growth of the whole child. The program provides
an educational foundation which includes all aspects of child
development: social, emotional, cognitive, physical, and
spiritual. Children learn from daily interactions with their
environment. Our preschool allows the children to interact with
materials, their peers, and adults. Our primary teaching goal is
to help young children use the environment productively and see
themselves as capable learners.
Primary
The Kindergarten through Third grade curriculum strives to offer
a challenging program to help the children be exceptionally
capable individuals in all aspects of their lives. Our program
meets and exceeds the standards set forth by the State of
Indiana and the Diocese of Southwest Indiana and is dedicated to
fostering Christian faith in each child. Some of the programs
used to support and enhance the primary curriculum are: Full-day
Kindergarten, Math Your Way, Letter People, Mystery Minutes, 4
Blocks Literacy Model, Accelerated Reader, Our American
Presidents and Junior Achievement. Students actively participate
through hands on projects, presentations, field trips,
development appropriate activities and more. Technology is
integrated into the program so that we may prepare our students
for the many skills required in their future.
Elementary
At the Elementary level, grades Four and Five, core subject
areas are enhanced. Reading strategies continue to be taught and
the writing process is emphasized. Indiana Pioneers is one of
the many programs which introduce our students to the social
studies of our state. Computer Applications is presented to
enhance the knowledge base in effectively using technology in
solving problems and presenting solutions. Students are
introduced to the departmentalization of subjects to enhance the
students ability for adaptation.
Middle School
The Middle School curriculum prepares students for High School.
All subjects are departmentalized. Students are introduced to
Foreign Languages, Independent Living and Industrial Technology
to widen their knowledge base. Science is presented as hands-on
through lab based activities. All students actively study the
Scientific Method. Realty Store-Drive Your Life and Enterprise
in Action are programs presented to the students which aide them
in looking at their future career and lifestyles. Algebra is
offered in our math program which fully meets High School
curriculum requirements. Several of the Middle School programs
serve as effective tools in preparing our students for High
School and beyond.
Technology as a Tool
Technology is used by Holy Family School as another tool for
learning. Holy Family's Technology program offers: |
|
Through the Computer Applications Curriculum students receive
instruction on Word, Excel Spreadsheets, Graphics, and Power Point
Presentations giving them the technology base which is becoming
increasingly important to our futures.
Beyond the
Classroom
Certain programs can be the highlights of a student's day. Art can
inspire and enhance an appreciation for the creations of others. While
creating music may bring complete satisfaction in self expression. Music
can be a great tool for students to express their feelings and faith.
Physical activity, through a physical education program, can be yet
another tool in developing an appreciation of our physical strengths and
our abilities to work together to accomplish a goal. These programs
offer our students growth beyond the typical classroom curriculum. |
