There are many services and programs happening
at the Perry Animal Shelter. A summary of each is below.
Boarding
The PCAS offers boarding for cats and dogs while
their owners are away from home for work or
vacations, etc. To be able to board your pet, make sure
your pet is up-to-date with routine shots and has a
collar and leash. If there are special needs please
bring any items for that also. The fee for dogs is $10
and $5 for cats. Call ahead please to schedule boarding.
S.P.O.T.
S.P.O.T. stands for Shelter Puppies Offender Trained.
This program involves dogs from PCAS being taken
in
at the Branchville Training Center to be trained
by specially trained
offenders in cooperation with the
Indiana Canine Assistant Network. This program is a great
opportunity for both because it not only helps the
dogs become better pets, but it allows the dog handler
to achieve a responsible goal and companionship.
The S.P.O.T. handlers are specially trained for this.
The dogs are worked with for twelve weeks and are
trained to be house broken, how to walk on a leash, and
basic obedience. Dogs accepted into this program are
spayed or neutered beforehand. Once they have
completed their program in S.P.O.T. they become
available for adoption through PCAS into loving homes.
Several dogs have "graduated" from this program and
are now in their new homes. Currently there are four
PCAS dogs participating in this program.

Bathing/Grooming
PCAS offers bathing and grooming for pets. The fee
for this service depends on the size of the pet, but the basic
fee for this is $10.
Animal Assisted Therapy
PCAS believes in the positive
effect that pets can have on people, so it offers animal assisted
therapy to local
nursing homes each month. This has proven to be very
beneficial for both the pets and the senior citizens they visit.
If you would like to schedule an animal visit for animal
assisted therapy please contact PCAS to schedule a visit.
Humane Education
PCAS also believes it is very
important to educate the public
about animals and their humane treatment. Schools and other
community groups can contact the shelter to schedule tours and
education sessions. In these sessions children and adults are taught
about being a responsible pet owner, the importance of spaying and
neutering pets, how to handle and stay safe around pets, and much
more. If you are interested in this service contact PCAS to schedule
an educational session.
