Abraham Lincoln, our country's sixteenth president, is
considered to be one of the greatest presidents of our country's
history. It was during his presidency that the American Civil War
took place. He successfully held our union together and also ended
slavery.
He grew up, from birth to age seven, on a farm in
Kentucky, and from seven until age 21, in the frontier of Southern
Indiana. These years were important because that is when Lincoln
formed his ideals and beliefs. He once said of his time in Indiana
"There I grew up."
Our country is celebrating the bicentennial,
200th anniversary, of Lincoln's birth. There have been and will be
ceremonies, museum exhibitions, television specials, theater
productions, and so much more celebrating his life and his legacy.
There is a renewed interest in his life and how he became such a
great man for our country and admired throughout the world.
In honor of this historical year, we decided to create
this website about his growing up years in Kentucky and
Indiana. We focused on his growing up years
because we feel much of his character and beliefs were formed during
those years. We hope you enjoy our website and learn from it. If you have any
interesting information about Abraham Lincoln to share with us, or comments for us, please
e-mail them to us
