(To read about his mother, father, stepmother, and sister click on each photograph.)

Abraham Lincoln's immediate family during his growing up years included his mother, his father, his sister, his cousin, and his stepmother. His sister Sarah was two years older than him. He did have a little baby brother, but this baby, named Thomas after his father, died in 1812 as an infant. His mother, Nancy Hanks, had a cousin named Dennis who lived near the Lincolns with his family. When the Lincoln's had first moved to Indiana Dennis came to live with the Lincoln's after his parents died of a sickness called "milk sickness". Nancy also came down with the sickness and died when Abraham was only nine years old. His father, Thomas, remarried about a year later to Sarah Bush Johnston. She had three children from her first marriage, who became Abraham's step sisters and brother.
We decided to research four Abraham Lincoln's family members from his growing up years. They are his mother, father, stepmother, and sister and share what we learn with you. So, if you want to learn more about Nancy Hanks Lincoln, Thomas Lincoln, Sarah Bush Johnston Lincoln, or Sarah Lincoln Grigsby, click on their photographs above. We feel that Abraham Lincoln's family helped him in his journey to greatness.

The quote "All that I am, or all that I ever hope to be
I owe to my angel Mother." is believed to be what
Abraham Lincoln said of his mother, Nancy Hanks Lincoln.
