BARTON TOWNSHIP SCHOOL RULES

GENERAL RULES

1. The East Gibson School Corporation requires that for the protection of the school child a

permit be on file at the school before medication may be given. Medications prescribed for an individual child shall be kept in the original container bearing the original pharmacy label showing prescription number, date filled, physician's name, directions for use, name

of drug, and the student's name. All medications must be kept in the office. Indiana State

Law no longer allows school personnel to send medicines home with children. Exceptions

are insulin, inhalers and adrenaline. Medicines can only be released to parents or adults

specified by parents.

2. Proper supervision begins each day at 7:35 A.M. Students will not be admitted to

the building until this time. The "tardy" tone sounds at 8:00 A.M.

3. If a child is to be absent from school, the parent should telephone the office at 795-2292

by 9:00 a.m. that day. An answering machine is available for your convenience. If unable

to notify the school the parent may send a note explaining that absence to school the next

day.

If your child has a doctor or dentist appointment, please return a signed

excuse from their office. The student is still counted absent, but it will be

an excused absent. Please do not forget to use the arranged absence form (available in

the office) when prior knowledge is available of an upcoming student absence.

Prearranged absences, if properly approved, are excused.

4. If your child arrives late or is picked up early you must sign the student in/out in

the office.

5. The perfect attendance award will be presented at the close of the school year to those

students who were neither tardy nor absent from any class for any reason during the school

day. YOU MUST HAVE PERFECT ATTENDANCE IN EACH CLASS to receive this honor.

6. Parents are welcome to visit BTS at any time. When entering the building you must report

to the office when visiting or picking up your child.

PLAYGROUND RULES

1. All games involving or resembling the game of keep-away are forbidden.

2. Any student who removes any of the school equipment from its place of storage will be

responsible for returning it to its storage place.

3. Temperature at which all students are to stay inside will be 20 F. (combination of

temperature and wind chill) or below and upon written request of their parents or guardian. Requests will only be honored for one day.

4. Kindergarten, first, second and third grades are the only students permitted on the small

slide. Students are not to play under the slides.

5. Kindergarten, first, second and third grades are the only students permitted on the spring

horses.

6. All students may play on the monkey bars and the large slide. Students are not permitted

to stand on top and jump off. If student is playing dangerously, his/her play time will be

restricted.

7. Students are not permitted to stand up in the swings, twist the chains, jump out, or push

each other.

8. Only two students are allowed on the teeter-totter at a time.

9. Students are not to be collecting rocks and bringing them into the school building. Students

are not to lay down and roll in the rocks nor kick rocks.

10. Students are to use the restroom before going out or immediately upon returning to the

building from recesses.

11. Students are to stay away from all BTS landscaping.

12. Students are not to hang from the basketball goals or pull on nets.

13. Students are not to jump off or play on the bleachers.

14. Students must receive homeroom teacher approval before bringing any playground

equipment from home. No baseballs are allowed. The school will not be responsible for any

item brought from home by any student.

LUNCHROOM PROCEDURE

1. Lunches brought from home must be kept in lockers. All candy must be eaten in the

cafeteria.

2. All students who eat at school shall be required to eat in the cafeteria, unless otherwise

directed.

3. There will be no saving of seats or tables.

4. No one is to leave their seat without permission unless returning trays.

5. Students are not to take their trays to the dishwashing area until someone is at the window.

Do so in single file--do not rush the area. All trays shall be stacked appropriately. All

silverware is to be placed in the bowl of soapy water.

6. Upon entering the cafeteria at lunch, students are not allowed to return to their hallway

during that period.

7. Cafeteria chairs are not to be moved from table to table.

8. If a student does not buy a meal ticket in the morning, he/she may receive and pay

for a tray, but they must wait until all students that ordered properly have been served.

Meal tickets may be bought daily or weekly. The tickets are the responsibility of the

students. Lost tickets will be replaced one time only

BTS ARRIVAL AND DISMISSAL PROCEDURES

The building opens at 7:35 A.M. There is no need for any student to be on the grounds prior to that time.

The busses will off-load at 7:35 A.M. The person on bus duty will keep the students in the courtyard on fair weather days until 7:50 A.M. When weather is bad, students are to go directly to the gym upon their arrival at the building.

All students are to remain in the courtyard or go directly to the gym (depending on the weather) unless otherwise instructed by their homeroom teacher.

School officially begins at 7:50 A.M. with the beginning of the homeroom period.

All grades may dismiss those students that walk home or those that are being picked up by automobile at 3:10 p.m. Late Bus duty shall begin at 3:15 p.m.

Walkers shall leave the school grounds immediately. No students will be allowed to wait around the parked buses. Those that ride a vehicle other than the buses home will go directly to that vehicle after exiting the building. Students must be aware of moving vehicles on the way to their own vehicle. Be careful!

Running will not be tolerated on the way to the bus. Stay on the sidewalk and off the gravel/shrubs. Walk directly to the bus.

LATE BUS DUTY RULES

1. After 3:10 all teachers will escort their students to the Courtyard (weather permitting).

2. Every student is to be seated in their designated area. Hands, feet and backpacks are to be

held in check. Inside voices only are to be used.

3. When a student's bus number is called, those students are to walk to their bus.

4. All students should use the restroom and get a drink before lining up for bus line.

5. No student will be allowed to return to classroom, hallway, or lockers without teachers

permission.

6. Students must follow all safety patrol instructions.
